Tue, 17 May 2016 19:19:44 +0000WinBetaTweaked Apple Music app with ‘Browse’ spotted on Apple TV
http://9to5mac.com/2016/05/17/apple-music-changes-apple-tv-app/

Earlier this month we reported that Apple Music on iOS 10 is set to receive several visual tweaks and feature enhancements intended to make using the subscription music service easier and attract more customers. Changes expected include a more static black and white user interface in place of today’s album art color-matching UI, lyrics integration, and a tweaked tab bar for navigation. We expect Apple Music to rename the ‘New’ section as ‘Browse’ to further highlight curated content found within. A 9to5Mac reader has since discovered this change in the wild thanks to the tvOS Apple Music app on the new Apple TV.

Leaks regarding the iPhone 7 have been plentiful so far this year. We’ve seen a handful of schematic drawings, component pictures, and a few purported photos of the device itself. Now, another set of images has appeared on Chinese social media site Weibo claiming to show the upcoming 4.7-inch iPhone 7 variant. As has been reported in the past, the design is largely similar to that of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s, but with a few tweaks. (via LettemSvetemApplem).

At the same time, it is an easy skill to learn—though not to master—and you have probably been doing it all of your life without realizing it. Tue, 17 May 2016 15:26:10 +0000WinBetaSoundHound for iOS adds ‘OK Hound’ command for voice control w/ Apple Music & Spotify integration
http://9to5mac.com/2016/05/17/soundhound-hands-free-mode/
Tue, 17 May 2016 15:21:06 +0000

Siri may be the default voice assistant on iPhones and iPads, but it can easily be beat when it comes to speed and third-party service integration. SoundHound’s new voice command and Hands-Free mode on iOS highlights this. Starting today, SoundHound can activate its music recognition feature instantly with the ‘OK Hound’ command, plus the app integrates with Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora, and other services to add to what’s possible.

Apple has always been seen as a hardware company – from the original Apple Computer through to the Apple Watch. Ask anyone to describe what the company does and they’ll all talk about those sleek, stylish, easy-to-use gadgets.

Some people will even jump straight to calling Apple the iPhone-maker, other products seen as also-rans. Which, in financial terms, is not unreasonable: the iPhone accounts for 65% of the company’s revenues. So it’s no surprise that the market is unsure how to respond at a time when the company’s main product is experiencing declining sales. That uncertainty is being exacerbated by suggestions that the iPhone 7 may be rather similar to the iPhone 6 and 6s.

I’ve talked before about my view of Apple’s long-term prospects, but that piece focused on hardware, touching only briefly on an area Apple has been increasingly talking-up: services …

http://9to5mac.com/2016/05/17/report-apple-suppliers-ramp-hiring-earlier-than-usual-assembling-more-complex-iphone-7-design/
Tue, 17 May 2016 12:22:48 +0000

Economic Daily News is reporting that Apple suppliers have begun hiring en-masse this month as they prepare for assembly of Apple’s upcoming flagship iPhone, the iPhone 7. The new iPhones (coming in 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch sizes) are expected to debut in the fall, following tradition. The report comes via CNBC.

Interestingly, the report notes that the surge in hiring at Foxconn and Pegatron is happening earlier than usual (‘at least a month earlier’). Apparently, the new Apple iPhone includes a ‘more complex design’ than previous models meaning suppliers need more time to train staff about the assembly process. This somewhat contradicts previous leaks in the rumor mill which indicated the iPhone 7 would look very similar to the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus …

http://9to5mac.com/2016/05/17/mcx-currentc-dead/

Remember MCX CurrentC, the QR-code based mobile payment system that attempted to take on Apple Pay?
Apple Pay fans made fun of the service in app reviews, and it wasn’t long before retailers started to break ranks and we saw some rapid back-pedalling on Apple Pay from one CEO before he was replaced by another.

A new report from CBC News details the progress being made to unlock the FM radio chip that many smartphones feature.
Adobe today announced an update to Adobe Capture CC—its iOS app that lets users capture and edit images for use in its other editing apps.

The update brings a new Patterns feature that the company says “transforms any image or real-world object into a geometric or organic pattern.”

“Traditionally, the process of creating a pattern required manual tiling and a tedious chore of blending between tiles. The newest capability in Capture CC automatically blends the seams between tiles for a perfect pattern.”

And you can see in the screenshots above how the patterns feature works from with the Capture CC app on iPhone. After taking a photo, the feature allows you to select a portion of the photo to use and then automatically generates a pattern for you to preview.

Adobe offered up some other examples of the new Patterns feature in action. This one is made using a source photo of the Statue of Liberty:

Also included in the update:

IMPROVED SHAPE EDITING

Users asked for more editing controls when creating a new shape. You can now remove unwanted details or break connected paths with the new erase tool.

Earlier today we learned that Tim Cook will likely be visiting India following his current trip to China, and a new report has since followed shedding new details on Apple’s retail entrance into India. We’ve also been tracking progress on Apple’s brand new San Francisco location, which is finally set to open on Saturday, May 21st, just in time for WWDC next month.

http://9to5mac.com/2016/05/16/apple-releases-itunes-12-4-with-interface-and-navigation-changes/
Mon, 16 May 2016 17:25:35 +0000

In addition to releasing software updates across iOS, Mac, and watchOS, Apple today has released an update to iTunes. The update brings iTunes to version 12.4 and includes the design tweaks that were initially rumored earlier this month.

iTunes 12.4 introduces a variety of interface tweaks that Apple says make it easier to navigate the app and switch between different kinds of content. First off, there’s a new media picker that allows users to quickly switch between Music, Movies, TV shows, and more.
