<p>Earlier this year, we <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/02/24/apple-siri-osx-10-12-2016/">reported that Mac OS X 10.12 would bring Siri support as one of the tentpole features.</a> Apple is likely to introduce the next big update to OS X in just a few weeks at its annual WWDC event, and now we’re learning a bit more about what the company has in store. A new report today brings to light the possibility that Apple could add Touch ID support to OS X with 10.12, as well.</p>

<p>Earlier this week we saw Apple Pay add<a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/05/17/apple-pay-banks-mid-may/"> another 30 banks</a> across the United States, and today Apple’s digital wallet gains support for online bank <a href="https://twitter.com/Chime/status/733318432494587904">Chime</a>. Similar to <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/03/16/apple-pay-ally-bank/">Ally</a> and <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2015/05/05/apple-pay-banks-may/">Simple</a>, Chime has no physical banks and instead relies on its website and <a href="https://geo.itunes.apple.com/us/app/chime-banking/id836215269?mt=8&at=10laZc&ct=925">mobile apps </a>for supporting customers. Chime’s support for Apple Pay works through bank issued Visa debit cards. After setting up Apple Pay with Chime, customers can use supported iPhones, iPads, and Apple Watches to make payments in stores and in apps when available.</p>
<p>While Chime is new to the Apple Pay scene, launch partner Chase is <a href="https://twitter.com/Chase/status/733341481851748352">promoting</a> Apple’s digital wallet with a free iTunes album giveaway for one day only.</p>

<p>Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference kicks off in just a few weeks on June 13th in San Francisco, but high demand and limited venue space means Apple can’t accommodate every developer who wants to attend. This year Apple is responding positively by promoting other developer community events taking place in San Francisco during the week of WWDC.</p>

<p>I don’t use as many apps on my 12.9″ iPad Pro as I do on my iPhone, but the ones that I do use I’ve grown to love. And while I appreciate what the Apple Pencil can do, I’m not an artist, and prefer typing over handwriting. With that said, I tend to use my iPad Pro in the more traditional way.</p>
<p>The great thing about the iPad Pro is that it’s a flexible device that can adapt to a variety of workflows. Here’s a look at five of my favorite apps for Apple’s extra large tablet. <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/05/19/best-ipad-pro-apps-no-apple-pencil-required/#more-428377" class="more-link">more…</a></p><br />Filed under: <a href='http://9to5mac.com/category/apps/'>Apps</a> Tagged: <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/2do/'>2Do</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/app-store-app/'>App Store app</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/best-apps/'>best apps</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/garageband/'>GarageBand</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/ipad-pro/'>iPad Pro</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/ipad-pro-apps/'>iPad Pro apps</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/spark/'>Spark</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/top-apps/'>top apps</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/tweetbot/'>Tweetbot</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/ulysses/'>Ulysses</a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gocomments/9to5mac.wordpress.com/428377/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/comments/9to5mac.wordpress.com/428377/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/godelicious/9to5mac.wordpress.com/428377/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/delicious/9to5mac.wordpress.com/428377/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gofacebook/9to5mac.wordpress.com/428377/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/facebook/9to5mac.wordpress.com/428377/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gotwitter/9to5mac.wordpress.com/428377/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/twitter/9to5mac.wordpress.com/428377/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gostumble/9to5mac.wordpress.com/428377/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/stumble/9to5mac.wordpress.com/428377/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/godigg/9to5mac.wordpress.com/428377/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/digg/9to5mac.wordpress.com/428377/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/goreddit/9to5mac.wordpress.com/428377/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/reddit/9to5mac.wordpress.com/428377/" /></a> <img alt="" border="0" src="http://pixel.wp.com/b.gif?host=9to5mac.com&blog=22754319&post=428377&subd=9to5mac&ref=&feed=1" width="1" height="1" /><img alt="" border="0" src="http://pixel.wp.com/b.gif?host=9to5mac.com&blog=22754319&post=428377&subd=9to5mac&ref=&feed=1" width="1" height="1" />Thu, 19 May 2016 16:39:20 +00009to5MacMicrosoft commits to greener datacenters “for a brighter future”

<p>A wristband that zaps you with a 255-volt electric shock if you over-spend is the latest idea from Intelligent Environments, a company that <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-30182607" target="_blank">first announced</a> the Pavlock wearable 18 months ago as a way to dissuade owners from visiting time-wasting websites.</p>
<p>The band would be triggered, explains the <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-36301778" target="_blank">BBC</a>, if your bank balance drops too quickly.</p>
<blockquote>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">If the funds in the account go below an agreed limit, the band kicks in. </span><span class="s1">It can also work with smart meter Nest to turn down the heating and save energy bills if funds are low.</span></p>
</blockquote>
<p>Unsurprisingly, no bank has yet signed up for the service. But while the idea may be silly, it seems to me that the underlying concept here is exactly where the Internet of Things should be headed …</p>

<p>Something that has been bugging me for some time is that my iPhone, normally unlocked with Touch ID, asks for my passcode way more often than it ought to. That mystery has now been solved by a bullet-point that Apple added to its <a href="https://www.apple.com/business/docs/iOS_Security_Guide.pdf" target="_blank">iOS Security Guide</a> earlier this month – though the behavior has been there a lot longer.</p>
<p>Previous versions of the document said that iOS devices should only ask Touch ID users for their passcode in one of five circumstances. I found I was frequently asked for my passcode when none of these applied, but a sixth, recently-added bullet-point explains it …</p>

<p><a href="http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2016/05/19Apple-Opens-Development-Office-in-Hyderabad.html">In a press release</a>, Apple has announced it is opening a new development office in Hyderabad, India. The team located here will apparently focus on improving Apple Maps, which is deeply integrated across Apple’s hardware and software as dedicated apps and embedded in other services, like Siri. The new center will create up to 4000 new jobs in the local economy. It is currently unclear as to the nature of the workforce, as Apple has preferred to keep its core software engineering team in California with most working solely in Cupertino.</p>

<p>According to a new report from the <a href="http://nypost.com/2016/05/17/apple-seeks-more-space-in-gm-building/">New York Post</a>, Apple is looking to expand on its iconic Fifth Avenue retail location. While the company renovates the historic cube designed building, it will open in “some or all” of the 61,000-square foot FAO Schwarz space in the GM building. The report notes, however, that the temporary expansion could turn in to a permanent one seeing as how cramped the Fifth Avenue store has become.</p>

<p>9to5Mac <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/02/24/apple-siri-osx-10-12-2016/">first reported back in February</a> that Apple is planning to finally bring Siri to the Mac starting with OS X 10.12 later this year. Apple’s voice assistant started on the iPhone in 2011 and has since made its way to the iPad, Apple Watch, and Apple TV, so bringing it to the Mac is expected to be a tent pole feature in the next major software update. With the next big update to the Mac operating system set to be introduced <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/04/18/siri-announces-wwdc-2016-will-be-held-june-13th-through-june-17th-in-san-francisco/">in a few weeks at WWDC</a>, new images have surfaced purportedly showing how Siri’s iconography will appear on the Mac.</p>
