Bradley has been managing Apple devices in an education environment since 2009.
In the education industry, most people are very transparent about sharing advice. Even in the private school industry, you likely aren’t “competing” for the same kids, so we’ve ended up with a very open group of people that are willing to share best practices, tips, and tricks. One of the most common questions I get is about app selection for iPad deployments. I’ve been researching apps for a long time, so for me, it’s less about what apps are the best and more about what criteria do I use when examining them. Here some of the things I look for (in no particular order).

Fri, 01 Jun 2018 19:57:31 +00009to5MacThe High Five: Spelling, serves and swisheshttp://feedproxy.google.com/~r/blogspot/MKuf/~3/NBcdyELMbkU/

A network pulled the plug on an iconic sitcom, the nation’s best tiny spellers and NBA conference champs prepared to step into the spotlight—and people turned to Search to keep up with the buzz. Here’s a look at this week’s top trends, with data from Google News Lab.

Deja hoop

Game 1 of the NBA Finals kicked off this week and yes, we’re in for another Golden State Warriors- Cleveland Cavaliers series matchup. LeBron James and Stephen Curry reign supreme as the top searched players this week—surprise, surprise—while Ohio beat out California as the region with the most searches for “the NBA Finals.” We’ll have to wait and see who walks away with the Larry O’Brien trophy, but this group has already made history by becoming the only two teams to face off in the Finals four years in a row.

Catsuit got your tongue

Serena Williams stunned fans when she announced she was pregnant during her 2017 Australian Open sweep. The powerhouse athlete is in the limelight again this week, this time serving some major style. She claimed victory during her Tuesday match at the French Open sporting an all-black Nike catsuit that sent the Internet into a frenzy. Search interest in “Serena Williams black cat suit” spiked over 4,600 percent with “What is Serena wearing” coming in as the top trending question. That’s what I call the cat’s meow!

Barred from ABC

ABC canceled "Roseanne" on Tuesday after the show's biggest star, Roseanne Barr, sent out a racist tweet. “What did Rosanne tweet” and “Why is Rosanne cancelled" quickly rose to the top of Search. Folks across Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Indiana were particularly interested in “Roseanne” (the TV show) while others in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland were more intrigued by “Roseanne Barr” (the actress). Washington, DC was pretty curious about both—go figure!

Can you use it in a sentence?

Karthik Nemmani can! Forty-one of the nation’s best spellers competed for the coveted top spot in this year’s National Scripps Spelling Bee. Karthik, the soft-spoken eighth-grader from Texas, won it all with the proper spelling of “koinonia.” The Greek-derived word spiked by over 3,500 percent in the last 24 hours—"koinonia meaning" and "koinonia pronunciation" were the top related search terms. (According to Google, it’s “Christian fellowship or communion, with God or, more commonly, with fellow Christians.”) “Beautiful,” “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” and “resume” came in as some of the most searched “how to spell” words across the country.

Murph, muscle and might

What do you get when you combine two miles, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups and 300 squats? The Murph. If you’re still asking “What Is The Murph?” and “What is The Murph competition named after?” you’re not alone. These were among the top trending questions about the exercise phenomenon in the U.S. this week. “Murph” is a CrossFit workout that pays tribute to Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, who was killed in the line of duty back in 2005. But the real question is: “How long will I be sore from the Murph workout?”

Fri, 01 Jun 2018 18:30:00 -0000Fri, 01 Jun 2018 18:30:00 -0000The Official Google BlogAlleged ‘iPhone 9’ schematics claim to show entry level 6.1-inch LCD model

My daughter followed in those footsteps, and through their experiences, I saw how differently STEM is presented to and approached by boys and girls. I wanted to help level the playing field by making it easier for girls to develop a passion for STEM. I’d already built a space in my garage to coach kids about robotics, and I decided it was time to expand the effort so that more girls could get involved.

Last year, along with a scrappy group of Googlers and high school students, I hosted a workshop with the VEX Girl Powered initiative and eventually partnered with the Girl Scouts of Northern California. We developed an after-school program where middle and high school age girls work on their robots with Google volunteers and prepare for several competitions. We just wrapped up our first year of the program, with 68 girls participating across 11 teams. Three of the middle school teams—{Access Denied}, Lightning Bots and RoboPros2.0n—qualified for state championships!

Here’s what a few of Google’s volunteers—Rebecca Shapley, a business analyst for Google’s Developer Platform team; Nupur Garg, a software engineer on TensorFlow; and Dave Wu, Silicon Architecture EPM at Nest—had to say about their experience working with the girls:

Tell us about the project your team worked on.

Rebecca: The girls built a robot to lift and move cones within a 10’ by 10’ game-zone. The game is designed to reward both simple robots and additional complexity. A simple robot might lift a big cone and move it to a scoring zone, but a more complex robot will put a smaller cone on the big cone, and drive over a pipe to put it in a higher scoring zone. An ace robot will put the smaller cones in large stacks, and be able to score points autonomously, without a human driver, in the first few seconds of the game.

What’s been the most rewarding part of working with the girls?

Nupur: None of the girls on my team had previously done anything related to robotics, so the most rewarding part of working with the girls was seeing their growth. They went from being new to everything to taking ownership of what they wanted to accomplish each session. Over the last month of the program, they decided to build a more competitive robot that tackled elements of the game they had not previously attempted. There is nothing that replaces the feeling of seeing students grow and knowing you played a part in that.

Dave: It was rewarding to start from scratch and then design, redesign, refine and work as a team to compete and win various competitions.

Rebecca: I didn’t have a background in robotics, so I really enjoyed learning vicariously through the girls! It also threw into relief for me those other skills that support successful technical development, like scientific problem solving, designing, work planning, organizing group efforts and decisions, and systematic thinking. Even though I didn’t know much about robots, I could contribute by modeling these skills, and know that this could translate to the rest of their lives too.

<div They were confident that they could build something completely on their own that could compete with the more experienced teams in the high school division.

What can be done to get more girls involved in robotics?

Rebecca: More opportunities and more skilled people mentoring! The all-girls teams were great—the ratio of girls represented in mixed teams was substantially lower. Successful teams need time, practice space, robot pieces, mentoring, parent support, and design support.

Dave: Provide spaces and materials (like what Google did) so that more girls can get involved, and expose more parents to the program.

Nupur: It’s important to create a positive environment where the girls can learn and where failure is encouraged.

This summer, we hope to bring even greater awareness to STEM with our Girl Powered workshop in August. I do that in two ways: 1) enabling developers to find great users by advertising their apps and 2) building healthy and sustainable app businesses by enabling developers to monetize their apps through advertising.

How did you start working in the app industry?
I was tasked with leading Google’s mobile app advertising business roughly six years ago when the broader app industry was in its infancy. No one knew how big the apps economy would become at the time, but since then it’s seen rapid growth and we’ve been able to create products that make a big difference for our developers and users. For instance, with machine learning we can help developers automatically optimize ad campaigns to find the right Google channels for potential new users to install their app, instead of spending time manually adjusting marketing tactics.

Have you always been into tech?
I actually almost went into finance, but changed my major at the last second to computer science because I thought games and computers were cool. I had this affinity toward computer science as a consumer, but unlike all of my (mostly male) peers at Berkeley, I hadn’t written a single line of code before college.

So, you’re into gaming, then?
I’m a huge gamer—I can remember walking into a local department store when I was around six years old and watching kids play Mario on the original Nintendo. Since then games have been my go-to for entertainment. My current favorite gaming app is Mobile Legends. I love the storytelling and the competitive nature of games.

How has your interest in gaming translated to your career?

I understand the way these games are designed and how they attract users, because I’m one of them! I can appreciate the balance between creating games that are fun and engaging, but are also a sustainable business. Developers today know that people have so many choices with apps, it’s critical they find a balance that doesn’t ruin the user experience. That’s why we acquired and rebuilt AdMob—to give all developers a way to monetize their apps with ads in a thoughtful way that respects the end user. For example, with rewarded ads, people exchange attention for digital goods and services, benefiting both the user and the developer.

It seems like everyone is making an app these days—what’s so appealing about apps?
Lots of things! For example, apps can blend the real world and the digital world, like when you order on your Starbucks app and your coffee is there waiting for you when you arrive, or how Pokémon GO created an interactive AR gaming experience. Many also offer a more elegant user interface than traditional websites—for example, I do a lot of my shopping through retail apps (Farfetch is one of my favorites) because the payment flows are seamless. Apps also enable businesses to deliver a personalized experience to consumers, like Uber or DoorDash. There are a lot of great apps out there doing all of this and more—and our job is to help developers with these great apps find users who will enjoy them the most, which we’re enabling with Universal App Campaigns.

What’s one habit that makes your successful?
I always think there’s something more I can do to improve and be better—I’m never satisfied and it’s helped me succeed in my career. For example, early on I wasn’t good at public speaking, but I worked at it tirelessly and now I do presentations regularly for large groups of people (like I did a few weeks ago at Google I/O).

Who has been a strong female influence in your life?
My old boss, Amy Chang, who ran Google Analytics for many years. She is fearless risk-taker with incredibly strong moral principles that guided her through her career. She’s always stayed true to herself—and that’s something I look to embody in my own career.

What advice do you have for women starting out in their careers?
Always add value and make sure you get what you deserve. The big moments in my career have been when I’ve created substantial value and taken a risk, such as launching Universal Apps Campaigns. Additionally, getting what you deserve is something women struggle with—to me the fairness principle is very important. So, take action to drive real value, then show the value you brought to the table so it's attributed to you.

Wed, 30 May 2018 18:30:00 -0000Wed, 30 May 2018 18:30:00 -0000The Official Google BlogJust a Line: The first cross-platform collaborative AR app (for doodling)http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/blogspot/MKuf/~3/ulCipkEC9po/

In March, we released Just a Line, an experimental Android app that lets you draw in the air with your phone. That’s why we’re introducing three new phones coming soon to Project Fi: the moto g6, LG G7 ThinQ, and LG V35 ThinQ.

While these phones run the gamut of prices and features, they have a few things in common—including large screens, portrait mode-equipped cameras, expandable storage, and of course, full compatibility with Project Fi. Here’s the scoop on each of our three new devices.

moto g6

Score premium features at a budget-friendly price

The moto g6 (typically $249 but just $199 on Project Fi) is our most affordable Fi-friendly phone, bringing premium features—like a 5.7” edge-to-edge display and portrait mode—to a value-packed smartphone. It comes with a battery built to last, along with TurboPower™ capabilities for quick recharging. The moto g6 has 32 GB of built-in storage, and you can also add up to 128 GB of extra storage with a microSD card. Plus, with free high-quality storage on Google Photos, you never have to worry about running out of space for your photos.

LG G7 ThinQ

Get AI at your fingertips and a best-in-class audio experience

The LG G7 ThinQ ($749) is LG’s latest premium smartphone bringing a combination of useful features to a new design. Its 6.1” edge-to-edge display is both super bright and battery-efficient, and the phone’s Boombox speaker delivers a rich, powerful audio experience and deep bass you can feel. Finally, the LG G7 ThinQ puts smart, AI-powered features front and center to help you get things done more easily. Located just below the volume is a button that launches the phone’s AI functions. A single tap of this button will launch the Google Assistant while two quick taps will launch Google Lens, and its dual 16MP cameras intelligently suggest filters on the fly so you can capture the best shot effortlessly.

LG V35 ThinQ

Enjoy top-of-the-line specs in an ultra lightweight package

The LG V35 ThinQ ($899) packs best-in-class features into stunning, lightweight hardware. With uninterrupted OLED-powered display highlights super vibrant colors, you’ll see photos and videos at their best. Like the G7 ThinQ, it comes with 64 GB of built-in storage—expandable by up to 2 TB with a microSD—and a high-performance processor, but paired with 6 GB of RAM, it enables super fast speeds for those who love to multitask. All of these features come together in an ultra thin and lightweight package—so portability is never a problem.

If you’re ready to get your hands on our new devices, the moto g6 is already available for preorder. But we also understand that changes in technology can mean significant changes in our economy and our society, risking leaving some without the right tools or skill set to adapt. That’s why, as part of our efforts to ensure that technology serves everyone, we’re supporting programs that help people prepare for a new economic future. For example, people can use Grow with Google to acquire the skills they need to get their next job. And Walmart and Google.org recently announced a new partnership to promote new approaches to skill-building.

Learning new skills to find a job or start a business is important, but that’s only the beginning. As we see changes in the labor market—more freelancers, changes in benefits, and declining economic mobility— we need to support new policy ideas. We can go beyond a social safety net to a social “trampoline.” People should be able to bounce back from challenges, reach higher, and feel empowered to take steps to improve their careers and get better, richer and more meaningful jobs.

That is why as part of our $50 million Future of Work initiative, Google.org is announcing $2.5 million in funding to four nonprofit organizations working on innovative solutions to employment. The projects will work with people both inside and outside traditional employment—whether a budding entrepreneur, a freelancer, or someone who’s self-employed—to help them grow their sources of income and flexible benefits. Some of the projects may surprise you; they dive into new territory for us. But we see these grants as the beginning of a conversation on how we can collectively enhance opportunity for everyone.

Prototyping new portable benefits for low-wage workers: The Workers Lab is using Google’sdesign sprint methodology to design and prototype a new product that will deliver a portable benefit in the form of emergency funding for low-earning contractors and low-wage workers. Through this process, The Workers Lab will partner with leading gig platforms to test and scale this solution. This grant is co-funded with theRockefeller Foundation.

Understanding and improving the social safety net for freelance workers:The Aspen Institute Future of Work Initiative is coming up with new tools to help understand and administer support programs for gig workers. With Google.org’s support, Aspen is building a new digital resource that provides researchers, policymakers, and journalists with a one-stop shop for data about the gig workforce, while developing tools to help launch benefit programs geared to this growing business model.

Researching how to make the Earned Income Tax Credit work for more people:The Economic Security Project is researching how to modernize the Earned Income Tax Credit, which forms a key part of the social safety net. The research is looking at increasing expanding the credit further into the middle class, recognizing and rewarding unpaid work by covering caregivers and students, and offering an option to receive the credit on a monthly basis. With Google.org’s support, the Economic Security Project is looking at the cost and feasibility of these changes.

Using digital tools to experiment with new ways of organizing businesses:Co-operative businesses allow workers to pool resources, find clients, and mitigate the risks of working as independent contractors and gig workers. TheNew School’s Platform Co-op Consortium will partner with the Inclusive Design Research Centre at OCAD University to develop the Platform Co-op Development Kit, a platform to help people start just these kinds of co-operative businesses.

These organizations are at the front lines of creating a more resilient and responsive social contract. What we learn from their investments will help give policymakers new ideas and models and ideas that we hope can be applied more broadly. But not all know how to start.

Today, we’re announcing our partnership with KPMG to address these needs. KPMG's expertise in vertical markets, digital transformation, change management and business process consulting can help Google Cloud customers understand how to take advantage of the cloud and put plans into action.

Our partnership with KPMG will include solutions that will help enterprises in many different industries—including financial services, insurance, and healthcare—tackle issues like business transformation, cybersecurity and regulatory compliance. The first two solutions that KPMG built on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), KPMG Intelligent Interactions and GDPR Assessment and Compliance Service, are already available now.

KPMG have told us they’re looking forward to helping more enterprises transform their businesses through artificial intelligence and cloud technologies. They see the size, scale and security of our cloud, as well as our “AI first” priority and commitment to openness, as particularly beneficial to their customers.

KPMG are most excited to bring machine learning (ML) technologies to businesses. With our pre-trained ML models, KPMG's customers won’t need to build and train their own. This means customers can accelerate the time-to-value of their business transformation work with KPMG. KPMG has also built their own ML models that can be customized for enterprises much more quickly using Cloud ML Engine. For example, KPMG’s Intelligent Interactions uses Cloud Speech-to-Text and Cloud Translation API alongside KPMG’s custom ML models for customer and call classification to enhance call center agents’ interactions with end-customers. We’re already working together with a global banking leader to apply these technologies to their call centers.

The KPMG Lighthouse team—their data and analytics specialists—is also launching a Google Cloud-focused innovation lab with more than 80 GCP-certified experts who will experiment and collaborate with our team on client case studies.

We’re excited to partner with a company with more than 30 years of industry, change management, and consulting expertise. Fast forward a few years, and I’m now a part of Google’s machine learning education team. We support the company’s mission to make AI beneficial to everyone by helping educate Googlers and others on how to build machine learning (ML) models that look for patterns in data in order to solve a variety of problems.

Back in February, our team shared our internal Machine Learning Crash Course (MLCC) with the world to help more developers learn to use ML. Since then, we’ve heard from many people who are hungry for more ML education. In particular, you want to learn from teams who have built and deployed ML models. What challenges and successes do product teams encounter? How do they problem solve, and what solutions work best?

With all this in mind, my colleagues and I collaborated with Google’s image model experts to develop the Machine Learning Practicum on Image Classification. This hands-on practicum contains video, documentation, and interactive programming exercises, illustrating how Google developed the state-of-the-art image classification model powering search in Google Photos. To date, more than 10,000 Googlers have used this practicum to train their own image classifiers to identify cats and dogs in photos.

Today, we’re sharing this interactive course with you on Learn with Google AI, Google’s online hub for educational resources on machine learning. First, you’ll walk through the basics of how image classification works, learning the building blocks of convolutional neural networks (CNNs). Then you’ll build a CNN from scratch, learn how to prevent overfitting, and leverage pretrained models for feature extraction and fine-tuning.

We hope that you enjoy this course, learn something new, and think about new ways you can apply classification and CNNs to your own work or studies. Anne-Christine Lefort, a former veterinarian from Western France, is among our scholars who has used her newly learned skills to launch a new career. This is her story.

I'm a 51-year-old mother of two young children, and after winning a Google and Udacity Developer Scholarship, I'm finally fulfilling my lifelong ambition to work with computers. Most nights, I stay up late learning how to build apps.

Anne-Christine

Becoming an Android programmer is very different from my professional background in veterinary medicine. As a child, I was always interested in science, math and physics. I used a computer for the first time in high school in the 1980s (it was an Apple II!). I used it to play Space Invaders, but my teacher also taught me some programming basics and I knew instantly that I wanted to pursue computers further.

At that time, however, the only real-life applications of computer programming were in banking or insurance, which didn’t really appeal to me. So instead, I studied veterinary medicine at Ecole Nationale Vétérinaire de Lyon, followed by 15 years of working across a variety of laboratory roles.

After my second maternity leave, I returned to work and found that another company had bought the laboratory. My position had completely changed and I decided to take a leap and find something new. But as a woman over 45 and living in a small village in Western France, finding a job as a vet was difficult, and it was impossible to find a position that was flexible enough to accommodate family life.

Without uprooting my family, the only option was to start my own business. I had never lost my interest in computers, so I started building websites for local businesses from home. This offered huge advantages—it allowed me to be at home for the children, working while they were at school and into the evenings.

Though I was using WordPress to build websites and modifying HTML and CSS, my interest in apps and programming still burned strong. I wanted to learn more. In 2017, I saw an ad announcing the Google Developer Scholarship initiative, sponsored by Google and Udacity. This was exactly the kind of opportunity I had been looking for—to learn new digital skills and apply them in my career. I enrolled in the Android Basics Nanodegree Program, and within the first month, I had built an app!

Today, I’m learning new skills all the time and using them to grow my business. As well as working with clients, I want to build apps for children that will help them read and learn math and other languages. I'm also researching the development of an app for the veterinary industry given my knowledge and experience in this field.

Thanks to the Google and Udacity scholarship, I’ve been able to turn my new skills into the job of my dreams, while still being present for my children when they need me. I wanted to prove that a 51-year-old mom living remotely in the forest can become an Android programmer, and today I can proudly say I realized this goal. Moving forward I want to inspire others and show them that with passion and determination anything is possible.

Tue, 29 May 2018 17:15:00 -0000Tue, 29 May 2018 17:15:00 -0000The Official Google BlogAnnouncing Windows Server 2019 Insider Preview Build 17677

Much like most of the internet. What does mean something is this beautiful long weekend we’ve got ahead of us, so, without further ado: I bring you this week’s top five search trends, with data from the Google News Lab.

Wine not?

Today is National Wine Day, so watch for your dinner companions to have too many sips of “frose” and turn in early. The denizens of DC, Kansas, and New York were the most keen to know when National Wine Day was taking place. When comparing "red," "rosé" and "white" wine over the last 30 days, red wine is searched nearly twice as much as white, with average interest at 68 percent compared to peak spikes the weekend of May 12-13. Fittingly, interest in rosé is sitting pretty, right in between.

Marking Memorial Day

Red, white, and blue too: This Monday is Memorial Day, so people across the country are looking up tips and tricks for their patriotic celebrations. Top three questions this week on Memorial day were 1) “What was Memorial Day originally called?” 2) “Is today Memorial Day?” And 3) ”When did Memorial Day become a holiday?” Number 2 is my favorite.

Voted off the tie-land

The tribe has spoken … A tribe of reality TV contest candidates and also lots of people who still watch this amazingly long-running show. (Oh how it SURVIVES!) This week’s “Survivor” finale came down to a tie for the first time in the show’s 36-season history and long-standing show fanatics were deep in their feelings about it. Queries like “Who won Survivor 2018 Ghost Island?” and “Survivor fan favorite 2018” spiked over 2,500 percent (!), proving that there are whole worlds out there I know nothing about.

Drawing sides on straws

It’s 2018, so naturally people are taking sides on straws. McDonald’s is under pressure to scrap drinking straws for environmental reasons. Critics claim straws suck for the environment; they’re also super fun to use to drink things. Search interest in “McDonald’s straw” spiked by 230 percent at one point, surpassing search interest in “McDonald’s McFlurry.” While the top two most searched questions this week relating to McDonalds were about straws, the third one, comfortingly, was: “When does McDonald’s breakfast end?”

A verdict in 280 characters

A Texas police officer, a New York comedy writer and a Nashville surgeon walk into a courtroom … And the three are among a group that brought a lawsuit against President Trump for blocking them on Twitter. A federal judge ruled Wednesday that Trump’s blocking users on Twitter violates the First Amendment. Searchers turned to Google to ask: “Who are the plaintiffs in the Trump Twitter lawsuit?” and “Who has Trump blocked on Twitter?”

Fri, 25 May 2018 20:23:00 -0000Fri, 25 May 2018 20:23:00 -0000The Official Google BlogWe are many and one: Googlers mark AAPI Heritage Monthhttp://feedproxy.google.com/~r/blogspot/MKuf/~3/iuHBfdPFa8Q/

Tiffany’s mother was born in Hong Kong. Founded in 2007, AGN is open to all Googlers and provides an annual mentorship program, opportunities for civic and community engagement; leadership development; and curriculum to advance racial justice for all.

We celebrate Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month every year in service to that mission. And for the 40th anniversary of AAPI Heritage Month, it was important to us to convey the diversity of the Asian experience in America. For example, Asians at Google trace their roots to more than 20 countries, are multiracial, multiethnic, and speak dozens of languages. And when Asian ethnicities are disaggregated, the data shows that there are wide chasms in access to education, income, and representation. That means that issues that impact AAPIs are broad as well.

As part of this year’s AAPI celebrations, we created an internal curriculum for Googlers on Asian narratives called “We Are Many and One: Gathering Asian Narratives,” where participants share stories and find both common themes and differences within the Asian American Pacific Islander community at Google. Across the country, AGN chapters also put on events for their local communities, such as the exhibit organized by AGN Ann Arbor, which uses timelines, Supreme Court cases, poetry, and the stories of local Googlers to tell the history of Angel Island, the entry point for many Asian immigrants coming to the United States.

AGN Ann Arbor members observing the Angel Island Exhibit

To recognize the AAPI community outside of Google, we partnered with Google Expeditions to feature tours of “Hokule'a's Worldwide Voyage” and “Kamehameha: Unification of the Hawaiian Islands.” YouTube created a playlist of AAPI artists. Back in the 1980s, when I was being homeschooled, I was in one of these co-ops, learning geography, algebra and drama together with friends who were also learning at home. Homeschooling wasn’t as common then as it is now, and we were spread out geographically. We’d meet for a lesson once a week, but it wasn’t really possible to interact with the teacher once we got home. There was certainly no opportunity for us students to collaborate with our co-op teachers online!

As homeschooling has grown, families still get together to learn. In my work for Home School Legal Defense Association, I advise these groups every day, and I can see how new, advancing technology could benefit students. Through technology, homeschool co-op teachers can set and change assignments on the fly, students can work together even if geographically separated, and everyone has a common format for collaboration. It’s because of this potential that I’ve been working closely with Google this year to make sure that homeschool co-ops have the same access as other schools to G Suite for Education.

G Suite for Education is a free suite of productivity and collaboration tools—including Gmail, Google Classroom, Google Docs and Drive, Google Calendar, and more—that lets students and teachers interact seamlessly and securely across devices. It’s really exciting that homeschools will soon be able to use all of these tools to work better together, encourage creativity and practice critical thinking—whether they’re working one-on-one with an individual student or with a whole homeschool class.

Over the past few months a few homeschool co-ops have been piloting these tools, including the Partnership Homeschool Educational Association of Minnesota. Jen Crom, one of their teachers, started homeschooling in 2005 and each academic year has 110-130 students through grade 12. She’s found that using G Suite has helped her save precious time and helped her students produce a better final product on their assignments—while at the same time, exposing them to lifelong skills that they’ll need for their future.

For teachers, it’s just so easy to use.
