<p>Apple is expected to announce and release the <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/02/26/apple-iphone-se-4-inch-2016/">oft-rumored 4-inch iPhone SE</a> later this month, and ahead of that launch, supply of the company’s current 4-inch device is running low. Verizon, Best Buy, Walmart, AT&T, and Target all list limited or no availability or the iPhone 5s online, while we’ve also heard that supply at T-Mobile retail stores is running low. Also, there are already a handful of cases for the iPhone SE <a href="https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%253Daps&tag=9to5g-20&field-keywords=iPhone%2BSE%2Bcases">available on Amazon</a>.</p>

<p>According to a new report Chinese news organization <a href="http://china.nikkeibp.com.cn/news/flat/77180-201603011556.html">Nikkei</a>, Apple is currently planning to introduce the first iPhone with an OLED display in 2017. In the past, it has been rumored that Apple was <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2015/11/25/oled-iphone-displays/">aiming to use OLED technology by 2018</a> or 2019, but today’s report claims that Apple is ahead of schedule and plans to ship an OLED iPhone next year.</p>

<p>A day after Apple <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/03/01/apple-fbi-house-hearing-live-stream/">testified before the House Judiciary Committee</a>, a handful of privacy groups have officially filed that they support the company in its fight against the FBI. While the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/02/18/support-for-apple-against-fbi/">has previsouly expressed its support for Apple</a>, it today filed an amicus brief with the court, officially acknowledging its stance. Furthermore, three other privacy groups, Access Now, the Wickr Foundation, and a United Nations free speech group have also filed briefs with the court echoing the ACLU’s sentiments.</p>

Wed, 02 Mar 2016 19:45:24 +0000<div class="feat-image"><img src="https://9to5mac.files.wordpress.com/2016/03/postly-hands-on-2-1.jpg?w=1600&h=1000#038;h=563" /></div>
<p>Apple’s Cards app <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2011/10/12/apple-posts-cards-for-ios-app/" target="_blank">introduced</a> in 2011 and <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2013/09/10/apple-confirms-cards-app-for-ios-is-discontinued-recommends-iphoto/" target="_blank">discontinued</a> two years later remains one of my favorite iPhone apps to date. The service was fantastic: snap photos on your iPhone, then turn them into personalized letterpress cards sent through the mail to friends and family. Stamp and envelope included, you’d pay $2.99 for anywhere in the US or $4.99 for anywhere around the world. You can still send personalized letterpress cards using Photos on the Mac, but the service was perfect for me as an iPhone app.</p>
<p>I’ve tried a handful of similar iPhone apps since Cards shut down with <a href="https://geo.itunes.apple.com/us/app/postly-send-beautiful-postcards/id1052071889?mt=8&at=10laZc&ct=925" target="_blank">Postly</a> being the latest and perhaps most modern. Available for iPhone and iPad, Postly lets you create personalized postcards from your iPhone that deliver worldwide for $1.99.</p>

<p>Bloomberg hosted a lengthy interview with Apple head lawyer Theodore Olson, to discuss the ongoing FBI vs Apple case in light of the <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/03/01/apple-fbi-house-hearing-live-stream/">congressional hearing from yesterday</a>. Bloomberg’s <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-03-02/apple-s-olson-says-congress-not-courts-must-make-iphone-call">Emily Chang quizzes Olson</a> on various aspects of the case and although much of what is said is merely a repeat of what Tim Cook and other Apple representatives have said before, there are a few new tidbits. Olson says there isn’t a middle ground he can foresee between Apple’s staunch privacy position and the data collection wishes of the FBI. Olson was last quoted saying that if the FBI got their way, it <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/02/27/apple-lawyer-interview-video-encryption/">would lead to an Orwellian society</a>.</p>

<p>Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has weighed in on the continuing Apple Car rumors. In an <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/us-autoshow-geneva-fiatchrysler-apple-idUSKCN0W41QI?feedType=RSS&feedName=technologyNews">interview with Reuters</a> at the Geneva auto show, the executive said Apple should think twice before jumping into making cars. He said automobiles are a ‘complex business’ and it makes more sense for Apple to partner with an existing car manufacturer than do everything itself. <p>There were a few face-palm moments in yesterday’s <a href="http://House Judiciary Committee" target="_blank">House Judiciary Committee hearing</a>, from committee members who appeared not to know what encryption is to Apple’s lead lawyer Bruce Sewell having to make a hasty switch from his iPad Pro to paper when the device apparently failed. (Some suggested it may simply have timed-out and auto-locked, but it’s unclear why he wouldn’t use Touch ID to let himself back in.)</p>
<p>Overall, though, it was a serious discussion of the issue, with each side making its points in a calm, rational manner and being subjected to many probing and intelligent questions.</p>
<p>It wasn’t a one-sided battle by any means. <span class="s1">FBI Director James Comey</span> made some solid arguments that clearly hit home. But my view is that Apple not only won on points, but also scored the knock-out blow …</p>

<p>Apple is ramping up security and privacy efforts on all fronts right now, although most attention is currently directed towards the ongoing Apple FBI iPhone backdoor case. Reddit user <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/48lagr/ios_93_beta_5_changes_for_supervised_devices_more/">MaGNeTiX has found</a> that Apple is taking a big step in iOS 9.3 (<a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/03/01/ios-9-3-beta-5/">currently on beta 5</a>) towards transparency when an iOS device is being managed by an institution or enterprise through MDM. If your iPhone is being tracked by the company, it is now clearly marked in the About page of Settings and the Lock Screen. It’s hard to get more clear than a permanent ‘This iPhone is managed by your organisation’ message at the bottom of the screen.</p>
<p>Apple lets companies track and manage iPhones through an MDM deployment program. iOS 9.3 will remove any ambiguity as to whether the company is tracking the device …</p>

<p>Shortly after yesterday’s <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/03/01/apple-fbi-house-hearing-live-stream/" target="_blank">Congressional hearing</a>, Apple filed a formal objection to the court order instructing it to <a href="http://9to5mac.com/tag/fbi/" target="_blank">assist the FBI</a> in breaking into an iPhone used by one of the San Bernardino shooters.</p>

<p>It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a new jailbreak release hit the scene publicly. Sure, we’ve seen teased images of jailbreaks from some well-known hackers within the community, but the last publicly available jailbreak tool was shared back in October 2015. Since then, iOS has been updated several times, and Apple has closed the signing window for iOS 9.0.2, the last firmware susceptible to a publicly released jailbreak tool.</p>
<p>Even though it’s been quite a while since we’ve seen a jailbreak, that doesn’t necessarily mean things have slowed down on the community side of fence. In fact, many new jailbreak tweaks continue to land on Cydia every single month. We also now have tools like <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/02/27/extensify-tweak-store-no-jailbreak-needed/">Extensify</a> that allow us to tweak some of our favorite App Store apps on non-jailbroken iPhones. Yes, jailbreaking has hit a bit of a lull, but developers and community enthusiasts continue to contribute on a regular basis. <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/03/01/state-of-jailbreak-march-2016-video/#more-421271" class="more-link">more…</a></p><br />Filed under: <a href='http://9to5mac.com/category/ios-devices/'>iOS Devices</a> Tagged: <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/ios-jailbreak/'>iOS jailbreak</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/jailbreak/'>jailbreak</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/jailbreak-tweak/'>jailbreak tweak</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/pangu-jailbreak/'>Pangu jailbreak</a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gocomments/9to5mac.wordpress.com/421271/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/comments/9to5mac.wordpress.com/421271/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/godelicious/9to5mac.wordpress.com/421271/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/delicious/9to5mac.wordpress.com/421271/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gofacebook/9to5mac.wordpress.com/421271/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/facebook/9to5mac.wordpress.com/421271/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gotwitter/9to5mac.wordpress.com/421271/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/twitter/9to5mac.wordpress.com/421271/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gostumble/9to5mac.wordpress.com/421271/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/stumble/9to5mac.wordpress.com/421271/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/godigg/9to5mac.wordpress.com/421271/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/digg/9to5mac.wordpress.com/421271/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/goreddit/9to5mac.wordpress.com/421271/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/reddit/9to5mac.wordpress.com/421271/" /></a> <img alt="" border="0" src="http://pixel.wp.com/b.gif?host=9to5mac.com&blog=22754319&post=421271&subd=9to5mac&ref=&feed=1" width="1" height="1" /><img alt="" border="0" src="http://pixel.wp.com/b.gif?host=9to5mac.com&blog=22754319&post=421271&subd=9to5mac&ref=&feed=1" width="1" height="1" />Wed, 02 Mar 2016 01:54:47 +00009to5MacApple leases former Pepsi plant in Sunnyvale, likely for Project Titan electric car initiative

<p>Hound, a voice search application from the creators behind <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2015/06/30/soundhound-ios-apple-music-beats-1/" target="_blank">SoundHound</a>, has been <a href="https://geo.itunes.apple.com/us/app/hound-voice-search-assistant/id1032432287?ref=9to5mac&at=1000lbbc&ct=hound" target="_blank">released today</a> for iOS. Hound’s application focuses on bringing users quick, accurate voice driven search results in a way I only wish Siri could. Implementing <a href="http://9to5mac.com/tag/google-now/" target="_blank">Google Now</a>-style cards, Hound’s interface is direct and to the point. Users are presented with a list of similar topics they can search for, and even given examples of the complex queries Hound can handle.</p>

<p>GIF Brewery has long been my go to app for creating high-quality GIF animations on the Mac. It’s always been relatively easy to use, yet features powerful enough options for serious GIF-creators.</p>
<p>With <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/gif-brewery-3-video-to-gif/id1081413713?mt=12&uo=4&at=11l9Le">GIF Brewery 3</a>, several notable new features have been added to the mix, including the ability to record video directly in app via your Mac’s screen, FaceTime camera, or even iOS devices. This update turns GIF Brewery into an end-to-end solution for creating GIF animations directly from your iPhone’s screen or other media, which can be extremely handy for things like tutorials and memes. <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/03/01/gif-brewery-3-gif-creator-mac/#more-421089" class="more-link">more…</a></p><br />Filed under: <a href='http://9to5mac.com/category/apps/'>Apps</a> Tagged: <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/gif/'>GIF</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/gif-brewery-3/'>GIF Brewery 3</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/gif-creator/'>GIF creator</a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gocomments/9to5mac.wordpress.com/421089/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/comments/9to5mac.wordpress.com/421089/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/godelicious/9to5mac.wordpress.com/421089/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/delicious/9to5mac.wordpress.com/421089/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gofacebook/9to5mac.wordpress.com/421089/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/facebook/9to5mac.wordpress.com/421089/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gotwitter/9to5mac.wordpress.com/421089/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/twitter/9to5mac.wordpress.com/421089/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gostumble/9to5mac.wordpress.com/421089/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/stumble/9to5mac.wordpress.com/421089/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/godigg/9to5mac.wordpress.com/421089/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/digg/9to5mac.wordpress.com/421089/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/goreddit/9to5mac.wordpress.com/421089/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/reddit/9to5mac.wordpress.com/421089/" /></a> <img alt="" border="0" src="http://pixel.wp.com/b.gif?host=9to5mac.com&blog=22754319&post=421089&subd=9to5mac&ref=&feed=1" width="1" height="1" /><img alt="" border="0" src="http://pixel.wp.com/b.gif?host=9to5mac.com&blog=22754319&post=421089&subd=9to5mac&ref=&feed=1" width="1" height="1" />Tue, 01 Mar 2016 19:05:28 +00009to5MacApple releases watchOS 2.2 beta 5 & tvOS 9.2 beta 5 to developers
