<p>If you’re looking for a pair of inexpensive wireless earbuds for workouts, then Aukey’s EP-B20 Bluetooth Headset is worth a look. These aren’t the most prestigious earbuds that you can pick up, but they sound decent, feel great in ear, and come with <a href="http://amzn.to/21jUTcs">a reasonable $27.99 price</a>. <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/04/29/review-aukey-ep-b20-bluetooth-headset/#more-429409" class="more-link">more…</a></p><br />Filed under: <a href='http://9to5mac.com/category/reviews/'>Reviews</a> Tagged: <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/aukey/'>Aukey</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/aukey-bluetooth-headphones/'>Aukey Bluetooth Headphones</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/bluetooth/'>Bluetooth</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/bluetooth-4-1/'>Bluetooth 4.1</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/review/'>review</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/wireless/'>Wireless</a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gocomments/9to5mac.wordpress.com/429409/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/comments/9to5mac.wordpress.com/429409/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/godelicious/9to5mac.wordpress.com/429409/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/delicious/9to5mac.wordpress.com/429409/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gofacebook/9to5mac.wordpress.com/429409/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/facebook/9to5mac.wordpress.com/429409/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gotwitter/9to5mac.wordpress.com/429409/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/twitter/9to5mac.wordpress.com/429409/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gostumble/9to5mac.wordpress.com/429409/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/stumble/9to5mac.wordpress.com/429409/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/godigg/9to5mac.wordpress.com/429409/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/digg/9to5mac.wordpress.com/429409/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/goreddit/9to5mac.wordpress.com/429409/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/reddit/9to5mac.wordpress.com/429409/" /></a> <img alt="" border="0" src="http://pixel.wp.com/b.gif?host=9to5mac.com&blog=22754319&post=429409&subd=9to5mac&ref=&feed=1" width="1" height="1" /><img alt="" border="0" src="http://pixel.wp.com/b.gif?host=9to5mac.com&blog=22754319&post=429409&subd=9to5mac&ref=&feed=1" width="1" height="1" />Fri, 29 Apr 2016 21:11:07 +00009to5MacFiat Chrysler CEO opens up on potential Apple or Google partnership to build cars

<p>The automotive industry is a capital-intensive industry. Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne knows it and that’s why he is open to work with Google or Apple:</p>
<blockquote><p>“Google can buy every automaker out of petty cash. And Apple — they made a net profit of $24 billion in one quarter. This is nonsense. What are we defending? What?”</p></blockquote>
<p>In a not yet released 2-hour interview with <a href="http://www.automobilemag.com/news/fca-ceo-tieup-google-apple-makes-sense/">Automobile Mag</a>‘s Georg Kache, Marchionne discusses <a href="http://electrek.co/2016/04/28/google-reportedly-close-to-striking-a-self-driving-car-partnership-with-fiat-chrysler/">the recent rumors of a FCA partnership with Google for self-driving cars</a> and how the automaker wants to position itself in an industry disrupted by the likes of Apple, Google, Tesla and Uber. <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/04/29/fiat-chrysler-ceo-apple-google-partnership-build-cars/#more-429439" class="more-link">more…</a></p><br />Filed under: <a href='http://9to5mac.com/category/apple-car/'>Apple Car</a> Tagged: <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/apple/'>Apple</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/fiat-chrysler/'>Fiat Chrysler</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/google/'>Google</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/partnership/'>partnership</a>, <a href='http://9to5mac.com/tag/sergio-marchionne/'>Sergio Marchionne</a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gocomments/9to5mac.wordpress.com/429439/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/comments/9to5mac.wordpress.com/429439/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/godelicious/9to5mac.wordpress.com/429439/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/delicious/9to5mac.wordpress.com/429439/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gofacebook/9to5mac.wordpress.com/429439/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/facebook/9to5mac.wordpress.com/429439/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gotwitter/9to5mac.wordpress.com/429439/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/twitter/9to5mac.wordpress.com/429439/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gostumble/9to5mac.wordpress.com/429439/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/stumble/9to5mac.wordpress.com/429439/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/godigg/9to5mac.wordpress.com/429439/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/digg/9to5mac.wordpress.com/429439/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/goreddit/9to5mac.wordpress.com/429439/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/reddit/9to5mac.wordpress.com/429439/" /></a> <img alt="" border="0" src="http://pixel.wp.com/b.gif?host=9to5mac.com&blog=22754319&post=429439&subd=9to5mac&ref=&feed=1" width="1" height="1" /><img alt="" border="0" src="http://pixel.wp.com/b.gif?host=9to5mac.com&blog=22754319&post=429439&subd=9to5mac&ref=&feed=1" width="1" height="1" />Fri, 29 Apr 2016 19:10:51 +00009to5MacDesigner Apple Watch bands by Coach reportedly coming soon for around $150 [Photos]

<p>Apple has previously partnered with designer brand Hermes for a set of premium Apple Watch bands, <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/04/07/apple-announces-standalone-apple-watch-hermes-bands-coming-soon-with-new-colors/">sold separately from $340 per strap</a>. It now appears that a second high-profile fashion designer, Coach, is coming on board with its own range of Apple Watch bands.</p>
<p>David Boglin De Bautista <a href="http://hauteecriture.com/coach-to-release-new-apple-watch-bands-as-early-as-june/">reports a sales associate</a> in a Coach boutique told him about the upcoming collection, set to debut as early as June. The sales representative sent photos of the as-yet-unreleased bands (shown above), priced at $150 each.</p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">As someone that often carries around a portable battery or two when on-the-go for extended periods of time (because I don’t particularly like the added bulk of using a battery case), this <a href="http://goo.gl/JjWQ1M">new MagicMount product from Scosche</a> looks very interesting. </span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">A super slim magnetic pad goes on your iPhone, and the battery pack then magnetically attaches to it when needed and connects to your device over a built-in Lightning connector. That gives you the benefits of a battery case by having the portable battery attached to the device, but also allows you to easily remove it once you’ve added enough juice to your device.</span></p>

http://9to5mac.com/2016/04/29/review-kito-plus-ecg-02-sats/
Fri, 29 Apr 2016 14:38:15 +0000<div class="feat-image"><img src="https://9to5mac.files.wordpress.com/2016/04/kito-1.jpg?w=1600&h=1000#038;h=500" /></div>
<p>Prior to the official announcement of the <a href="http://9to5mac.com/tag/apple-watch/" target="_blank">Apple Watch</a>, there were multiple rumors that the device would be packed with health-related sensors. When it finally launched, however, it got just a heart-rate monitor – albeit a <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2015/04/20/apple-watch-heart-rate-monitor-details/" target="_blank">sophisticated</a> one. A <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2015/04/23/apple-watch-teardown/" target="_blank">teardown</a> revealed that there’s also a <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2015/04/24/apple-watch-blood-oxygen/" target="_blank">pulse oximeter</a> in there, to measure oxygen saturation in your blood, but Apple hasn’t yet activated that functionality.</p>
<p>The apparent turnabout on sensors was explained by Tim Cook, who last year told the <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2015/11/10/apple-health-products-tim-cook/" target="_blank"><em>Telegraph</em></a> that Apple wanted to avoid the need for FDA approval as a regulated health product as that would slow innovation. Any additional sensors, he strongly hinted, would be external.</p>
<p>If you don’t want to wait that long, however, health-tech company Azoi has launched the Kito+, a credit-card sized unit that pairs with an iPhone app to measure heart-rate, ECG, blood oxygen, respiration rate and skin temperature. Costing £99 ($145), you can either use it as a standalone unit, or slot it into the supplied iPhone case for the iPhone 6/6s/Plus …</p>

<p>Streaming of <a href="http://9to5mac.com/tag/drake/" target="_blank">Drake’s</a> latest album <em>Views</em> has hit <a href="http://9to5mac.com/tag/apple-music/" target="_blank">Apple Music</a>, and will be exclusive to the streaming service for one week, the rapper announced on <a href="http://9to5mac.com/tag/beats-1/" target="_blank">Beats 1</a>. This confirmed an earlier <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/04/11/views-from-the-6-drake-availability-streaming/" target="_blank"><em>Buzzfeed</em> report</a>.</p>
<p>Drake told Zane Lowe that the album is a very personal one, based very much on his own feelings about himself and his home city of Toronto.</p>
<blockquote>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">I’m a very honest person. I can’t write fiction.</span></p>
</blockquote>
<p>The short one-week exclusivity period was no doubt influenced by the fact that Drake was the <a href="https://news.spotify.com/us/2015/12/01/drake-is-the-worlds-most-streamed-artist-on-spotify-for-2015/" target="_blank">most-streamed artist on Spotify</a> last year, and perhaps also wanting to avoid emulating some high-profile U-turns by artists who had initially promised full exclusivity elsewhere …</p>

<p>In a new report, <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/us-apple-encryption-idUSKCN0XQ032">Reuters</a> this evening is claiming that the FBI paid less than $1 million for the tool it used to unlock the San Bernardino gunman’s iPhone 5c. Apple, of course, denied to create a tool to do so, so the FBI <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/03/28/fbi-accesses-data-on-terrorists-iphone-without-apple/">went through a third-party to gain access</a>. The report, citing “several U.S. government sources,” further claims that the technique can be used on any iPhone 5c running iOS 9.</p>

<p>Apple today has expanded its popular Apple Maps Flyover feature to a pair of new cities, while it has also rolled out Spotlight Suggestions to new countries and its traffic data to a single new location. Last month, the <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/03/29/apple-maps-nearby-flyover-traffic/">company expanded Maps Nearby, Flyover, and traffic data to a handful of new locations</a>, following a more <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/02/04/apple-maps-flyover-locations/">significant Flyover expansion</a> that occurred in February of this year.</p>

<p>Apple today is rolling out an update to the Apple Music app for Android users. The update continues to bring the app up to speed with its iOS counterpart and adds support for music videos and family memberships. The update follows the addition of widget support last month for the Android Apple Music app.</p>
<p>With support for family plans, users can now subscribe or update to a six-person family membership, which is arguably one of the best features about Apple Music. A six-person family membership runs $14.99, which is just $5 more than the one-person $9.99 membership.</p>

Entitled <em>Apple Music Best Practices for App Developers</em>, the documentation today solidifies what the Apple Music API can do and sets a precedent that developers of music apps should follow. At the original release of iOS 9.3, there seemed to be some confusion as to what the Apple Music API would entail exactly. We had <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/02/22/iso-9-3-apps-access-apple-music/">reached out to Ben Dodson</a>, developer of <a href="https://goo.gl/Wsr8y4">Music Tracker</a>, to better understand the limitations and new features the API could introduce. Today’s document verifies our original thoughts.</p>

<p>Despite Apple’s $50 billion quarter with $10 billion in profit, the <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/04/26/apple-earnings-fy16-q2/">January to March period </a>marked Apple’s first quarter in 13 years without growth including year-over-year iPhone sales declines for the first time. Apple set the expectations back in January, but<a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/04/27/following-earnings-decline-aapl-opens-down-8-market-cap-shrinks-by-40-billion/"> its stock still took a beating</a> after this week’s earnings report. Now activist investor Carl Icahn, who has been very noisy about what he thinks Apple should do in the past,<a href="http://www.cnbc.com/2016/04/28/icahn-we-no-longer-have-a-position-in-apple.html"> tells CNBC</a> he has sold his massive share of Apple stock. Icahn once owned nearly 1% of Apple’s shares, and publicizing that he’s out of the stock will likely influence other investors to follow.</p>

<p>Like a lot of new technologies from Apple these days, HomeKit isn’t perfect but the parts that work well are really useful. Apple’s <a href="http://www.apple.com/ios/homekit/">home automation framework</a> connects smart accessories from various companies all under the control of Siri and HomeKit apps like <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/04/25/home-homekit-app-3d-touch-design-enhancements/">Home</a> or <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/04/22/hesperus-homekit-iphone-app/">Hesperus</a>. But HomeKit is relatively young still and there’s plenty of low hanging fruit in terms of ways the framework could improve with iOS 10 and beyond. Here are a few ideas I hope we see with HomeKit this year:</p>

<p>[UPDATE 1:31 PM: Apple’s system status page has updated to reflect the issue’s occurrence and resolution.]</p>
<p>Apple’s iMessage service appears to be experiencing widespread issues this afternoon. Numerous people on Twitter and several 9to5Mac staffers are having issues sending and receiving messages across iOS, Mac, and Apple Watch. While Apple has yet to confirm the issue on its <a href="https://www.apple.com/ca/support/systemstatus/">System Status webpage</a>, it does note that an outage affecting 0.5 percent of its user base occurred yesterday afternoon.</p>

<p>A report back in February that Apple would be <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/02/08/apple-retail-stores-india/" target="_blank">allowed to open</a> retail stores in India has been corroborated by India’s <a href="http://tech.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/mobile/apple-to-be-exempted-from-30-sourcing-norms-by-govt-panel/52019939" target="_blank"><em>Economic Times</em></a>. India normally doesn’t allow single-brand retail stores unless at least 30% of their products are made within the country, but Apple is reportedly set to be granted an exemption on the grounds that its products are ‘cutting-edge technology.’</p>
<blockquote>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">A government panel has recommended exempting Apple from mandatory local sourcing norms, a move which would pave the way for Apple to open single-brand retail stores in the country. </span><span class="s1">“The committee has found that the company’s products are cutting edge technology and state-of-the-art. It has recommended to exempt them from the local sourcing norms,” sources said.</span></p>
</blockquote>
<p>The exemption is a pretty big deal for Apple …</p>

<p>Apple isn’t the only smartphone manufacturer seeing <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/04/26/apples-q2-numbers/" target="_blank">falling sales</a>. New figures from Strategy Analytics show what the global smartphone market saw its first-ever year-on-year drop on sales, down 3%.</p>

<p>Following on from <a href="http://9to5mac.com/tag/healthkit/" target="_blank">HealthKit</a> and <a href="http://9to5mac.com/tag/researchkit/" target="_blank">ResearchKit</a>, Apple has today launched its third medical framework, <a href="http://www.apple.com/researchkit/" target="_blank">CareKit</a>. First <a href="http://9to5mac.com/2016/03/21/carekit-researchkit-updates/" target="_blank">announced last month</a>, CareKit allows users to collect medical data that can be shared with physicians and other carers to provide an accurate log of symptoms and signs to assist with diagnosis and treatment.</p>

Earlier this week, Philips moved its Hue mobile apps to legacy status with a name change and icon tweak, and today Hue users are finally getting their hands on the latest and greatest Philips Hue apps for iOS and Android. The design improvements alone are dramatic and worth the wait, but Philips packs in some new features and tricks as well.</p>
