<p>We’ve heard from a number of people who recently purchased <a href="https://9to5mac.com/2017/03/30/2017-ipad-hands-on-review-329-video/">Apple’s just-released 2017 iPad</a>. For most, if not all of these people, this was their first iPad, or their first new iPad in years.</p>
<p>A lot has changed since the iPad debuted. Tablets are much more capable from a hardware perspective, but there have been big changes on the software end of the spectrum as well.</p>
<p>The iPad has always been known as a content consumption device, but as you’ll see, it’s also a strong platform for creative-minded people. If you’re new to the iPad, you owe it to yourself to try these apps, as they truly are some of the best in the business for creative types. <a href="https://9to5mac.com/2017/03/31/friday-5-creative-apps-for-new-ipad-owners-video/#more-475057" class="more-link">more…</a></p><br />Filed under: <a href='https://9to5mac.com/category/apple/'>Apple</a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gocomments/9to5mac.wordpress.com/475057/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/comments/9to5mac.wordpress.com/475057/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/godelicious/9to5mac.wordpress.com/475057/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/delicious/9to5mac.wordpress.com/475057/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gofacebook/9to5mac.wordpress.com/475057/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/facebook/9to5mac.wordpress.com/475057/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gotwitter/9to5mac.wordpress.com/475057/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/twitter/9to5mac.wordpress.com/475057/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/gostumble/9to5mac.wordpress.com/475057/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/stumble/9to5mac.wordpress.com/475057/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/godigg/9to5mac.wordpress.com/475057/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/digg/9to5mac.wordpress.com/475057/" /></a> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/goreddit/9to5mac.wordpress.com/475057/"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://feeds.wordpress.com/1.0/reddit/9to5mac.wordpress.com/475057/" /></a> <img alt="" border="0" src="https://pixel.wp.com/b.gif?host=9to5mac.com&blog=22754319&post=475057&subd=9to5mac&ref=&feed=1" width="1" height="1" /><img alt="" border="0" src="https://pixel.wp.com/b.gif?host=9to5mac.com&blog=22754319&post=475057&subd=9to5mac&ref=&feed=1" width="1" height="1" />Fri, 31 Mar 2017 23:11:37 +00009to5MacReview: PhotoFast’s new 4-in-1 Lightning drive w/ USB-C, USB-A, & micro USB adds a microSD card slot

<p>Back in December <a href="https://9to5mac.com/2016/12/15/review-photofast-mfi-thumb-drive-lightning-usb-c-a-micro-youtube-downloads/" target="_blank">I reviewed the Photofast iType-C thumb drive</a>, the first MFi thumb drive we’ve seen that includes Lightning, USB-C, USB-A, and micro-USB in a single device. That makes transferring files between iPhone and iPad and your various other devices like computers, drones and cameras a lot easier. And a companion app for iOS lets you view media files directly from the drive for offline viewing and sharing, a useful feature especially for those without extra storage on their device.</p>
<p>This week PhotoFast launched <a href="http://amzn.to/2okHKpw" target="_blank">a new version of the iType-C drive</a>, this time adding a microSD card slot to the equation…</p>

https://9to5mac.com/2017/03/31/homekit-wishlist/
Fri, 31 Mar 2017 15:29:40 +0000<div class="feat-image"><img src="https://9to5mac.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/homekit.jpg?quality=82&strip=all&strip=all&w=1600&h=1000" /></div>
<p>My <a href="https://9to5mac.com/guides/smart-home-diary/" target="_blank">Smart Home Diary</a> series describes my decision to go all-in on HomeKit, even though it meant the expense of replacing some older, non-HomeKit-compatible devices. For me, it just makes obvious sense to have a complete ecosystem of connected devices that can all be controlled by a single app – and by Siri.</p>
<p>I’d even go as far as arguing that HomeKit-compatibility is now the entry fee for companies wanting to launch smart home devices. I’ve turned down several pieces of kit offered for review because they didn’t work with HomeKit.</p>
<p>But great as it is, HomeKit isn’t perfect. I described earlier some of <a href="https://9to5mac.com/2017/02/20/homekit-review-irritations-complaints/" target="_blank">my irritations</a>, and in this piece I’ve compared notes with my colleagues to compile a wishlist of things we’d love to see …</p>

<p>Standing firm on the <a href="https://9to5mac.com/2016/11/28/apple-pay-australia-negotiate-with-apple/">decision it originally handed down in November</a>, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has <a href="https://www.accc.gov.au/media-release/accc-denies-authorisation-for-banks-to-collectively-bargain-with-apple-and-boycott-apple-pay">officially</a> rejected a proposal from a handful of big Australian banks that would have allowed them to negotiate in a group with Apple.</p>
<p>The news comes as Apple Pay’s rollout continues to lag in Australia due to disagreements between Apple and the big banks.</p>

<p><a href="https://9to5mac.com/2017/02/27/apple-sap-cloud-sdk-academy-training/">As expected</a>, Apple today released a new tool created in collaboration with SAP for developing business software.
